Accademia Bizantina and Ottavio Dantone complete the trilogy on the musical form of Concerto Grosso with the third chapter of The Exciting Sound of Baroque Music project:
Francesco Geminiani's Concerti Grossi Op.3.
The CD contains the six concertos that make up Opera 3, plus the Concerto Grosso in D minor, Geminiani's transcription of Corelli's famous Follia.
The limited-edition box set includes an 80-page booklet, in Italian and English, which historically and stylistically contextualizes the concertos and the new interpretation given by Accademia Bizantina and Ottavio Dantone.
A reinterpretation that vividly portrays the triumph of emotions in the Concerti Grossi by the "furious" Geminiani: a performer and composer of boundless talent, unpredictable, discussed in life and by posterity, original and innovative.
“When we set out to pursue this project around the Concerto grosso by releasing a trilogy of three different composers, *the choice of he third master of this form fell on Francesco Geminiani without hesitation. He was a talented musician, highly versatile both as a violinist and as a composer.” (O.Dantone)
"I have always liked the fiery and unpredictable character of the young Geminiani. It is said that he was quite difficult to join in concert because of his bizarre musical taste. [...]
Supposedly, Tartini called him “il furibondo Geminiani”. Furibondo, that is, furious: full of fury, restlessness, violent passions!" (A. Tampieri)
